Montreal, Quebec, Canada – The Sierra Sierra team experienced disappointing results in Round 11 at The Champ Car Grand Prix de Montreal Atlantic Race. Rain drenched the morning warm up session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and continued on through race time. After two rain soaking laps, the race was stopped and deferred to Monday.
Raphael Matos, (#6 ProWorks/Sierra Sierra Enterprises), who had a mathematical chance at the championship started the race in 5th position but was not able to improve and eventually lost two places, finishing 7th.
"It was a tough race. We didn't have a good pace at the beginning. By the time I had the pace, there wasn't enough time to catch up. I just had to do my best and finish the race in the best position I could," said Matos.
Matos currently hold 4th position with 175 point trailing Andreas Wirth (#37 INDECK/Wirth Solar) by 27 points for third in the championship rally of the Yokohama Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda Series. Matos hold 3rd in the race for Rookie of the Year.
Matos and the Sierra Sierra team are looking forward to improving their results at the season finale Road America race, September 22 – 24.
